Let's start with clarity: I don't "celebrate" Christmas. It's not a religious thing...I personally don't find value in the holiday as a special time of year to be festive. I respect people who do celebrate Christmas. I recognize that for some of them, it is the pinnacle event of the year. It's an opportunity for family, togetherness and great food. I get it.
I don't get the perceived pressure of this time of year...is it really necessary that I stick a smile on my face to make someone else feel better? Who is that really serving? Would it be okay if I show up as myself without any false bravado or superficiality? Would we be open to loving another human being no matter how they show up? Would love still reign supreme without judgment or expectations?...which is the core of what I understand unconditional love to be.
What I love about this time of year is seeing so much that gives me hope that the human race has the capacity to elevate their vision, put their differences aside, and be loving for no other reason than because they can. I yearn to see this every day, every where...and I'm really clear that I'm part of the human race and it's my personal responsibility to live this way. I practice to the best of my ability.
